SOROTI - As part of celebrations to mark 15 years of service to the Teso community, Etop Radio on Sunday, September 15, 2024, partnered with Soroti Hospital for a blood donation drive in Pallisa district at Akisim Primary School.
At least 55 units of blood were collected at Akisim Primary School after the blood bank in Soroti Hospital partnered with Etop Radio, Agule County Member of Parliament David Ochwa and Agule School of Health Sciences.
Martha Ajilong, the senior blood donor recruiter and co-ordinator at Soroti Hospital commended Etop Radio and its partners for partnering with them to save the lives of the people in Teso.
According to Martha, Teso region has for the first time in several years managed to stock enough blood during the just concluded holidays.
In recent years, Soroti Regional Referral Hospital Blood Bank, which supplies blood to the lower health facilities across Teso has been grappling with a shortage of blood, especially during school holidays.
This was because most of the blood donors in the region have been learners from different institutions, according to the blood donor recruiters.
Ajilong said they had to change strategies to manage to stock blood even during holidays.
Ochwa commended the Teso communities for donating blood and asked the blood bank to continuously supply lower health facilities with blood.
Meanwhile, Before the football match played between Akisim FC and ETOP FC in which Etop beat Akisim FC 2:1, six cultural music, dance and drama groups including Etop Radio’s drama group led by Adulesi entertained the masses.
MP Ochwa promised to sponsor the best Akogo group to attend Ateker Cultural Festival in Soroti this year and he supported Akisim FC with shs1m for the goal that they scored.
Etop Radio’s promotions officer, Stella Akia commended the partners for making the day colorful and successful.
