Former leader of the opposition in Parliament Winnie Kiiza has urged Members of Parliament to strike a balance between their political responsibilities and family life, warning that failure to do so can lead to broken families and personal distress.
Speaking during an induction session on self-care and wellness for female legislators on June 29, 2026, Kiiza said the demands of political leadership often consume leaders' time and attention, leaving little room for their families.
She cautioned MPs against prioritising constituents at the expense of their spouses and children.
Kiiza reminded legislators that political office is temporary, while family remains a lifelong support system, urging them to deliberately create quality time for their loved ones.
She also called on female MPs to remain united and avoid divisions based on political party affiliations, saying unity would be crucial in advancing the women's agenda.
The outgoing chairperson of the Uganda Women Parliamentary Association (UWOPA), Sarah Opendi, told legislators that the election of the association's new leadership had been postponed at the request of Speaker Jacob Marksons Oboth.

Opendi said she hoped the development would mark a new beginning for the association and help foster a stronger working relationship with the leadership of Parliament.
