A 2023 qualitative study conducted by Makerere University School of Public Health and published by PLOS Global Public Health scientific journal, showed that the underlying drivers of abortion in central Uganda stemmed from partners who were unsupportive, denied responsibility or had raped/ defiled women.
Pregnancy termination was more likely to occur among older women who listen to radio, women who use condoms as a contraceptive method, women in rural areas, and women in non-domestic roles.
