Why charity towards disadvantaged children matters

“A bag of food can bring relief. A set of books can give a child confidence. A small act of kindness can tell someone facing hardship that they have not been forgotten. Today's beneficiary can be tomorrow's helper...............

Charity towards others is important because it restores dignity, keeps hope alive, and gives people a chance for a better tomorrow.

“For many families, keeping children in school is a huge challenge. School fees, uniforms, books, and other scholastic requirements become unaffordable when a family is already struggling to eat. But when Good Samaritans pay school fees or provide scholastic materials, it does more — it eases pressure on the family and protects the child's right to learn,” says Sulaiman Bukenya of Bukenya Sulaiman Foundation.

He adds that children need opportunity, families need support, and the elderly need care and respect.

“What we do is identify genuine needs and provide practical support that makes an immediate difference. The foundation's recent visit to Oyam District and Nsambya Bakateyamba shows why this matters. The team focused on two of the most vulnerable groups — children and the elderly,” he stressed.

Bukenya further explained that supporting the needy, especially in times of crisis, was not just a matter of charity or goodwill, but a sacred duty.

“This initiative is a testament to our collective compassion, unity, and the moral obligation to serve our brothers and sisters facing hardship. We are committed to compassionate service, embodying the call to love and care for the vulnerable.”

Relief and kindness

Most importantly, Bukenya says charity does not have to be big to matter.

“A bag of food can bring relief. A set of books can give a child confidence. A small act of kindness can tell someone facing hardship that they have not been forgotten. Today's beneficiary can be tomorrow's helper. This time it was Oyam, next time it could be your community. That is why charity towards others is important — because kindness moves in a circle, and when we give where we can, we leave a positive mark on someone's life.”

“When we support a cause like this, we are not simply putting up a building; we are helping create an environment where vulnerable children can feel protected, valued and hopeful about their future,” Bukenya said.
