Ugandan rapper and cultural advocate Zedmonk Ssabatontomi has added another international accolade to his growing list of achievements after being named Entertainer of the Year at the 2026 StarQT Awards in South Africa.

Zedmonk, whose real name is Akram Kabuubi, emerged as the winner in the entertainment category at the awards held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, in Bedfordview, South Africa.

The 13th edition of the StarQT Awards was held under the theme “Excelling Against Odds”, bringing together entertainers, entrepreneurs, community leaders and other achievers to celebrate excellence and creativity.

Zedmonk's victory followed his nomination in the entertainment category, with fans rallying behind him through voting and engagement on the awards' digital platforms, including liking, commenting and sharing his nomination.

The StarQT Awards are a South Africa-based recognition platform with roots in the Ugandan community.

Established in 2014, the awards celebrate individuals, entrepreneurs, artists, community leaders and organisations whose work has made an impact in their respective fields.

Over the years, the platform has broadened its categories to recognise achievements in entertainment, entrepreneurship, fashion, leadership and community development, while providing a platform for emerging talent to gain visibility.

The 2026 ceremony marked 13 years of the awards and attracted nominees, entertainers, entrepreneurs and other achievers to Bedfordview for the annual celebration.

Zedmonk has carved a niche for himself through freestyle rap, cultural advocacy and digital entrepreneurship. He is widely associated with the slogan “Small Boy, Great Ancestors”, which reflects his emphasis on African identity and heritage.

Beyond music, he is the founding director of Ethnic Prides Organization UG LTD, an initiative that promotes African cultural heritage through music, storytelling, tourism and youth empowerment.

His latest award comes as he prepares for a second attempt at the Guinness World Records title for the longest rap marathon by an individual male.

Although the date and venue for the planned attempt have not yet been announced, Zedmonk says the project is intended to showcase Uganda's creative arts, culture, tourism and innovation to an international audience.
