Beauty is within your reach, sometimes in your kitchen. The easy ingredients we use in daily cooking can greatly improve hair and skin.Yoghurt is one of those that have been used throughout the years. It brightens, moisturises and softens skin.Zaitun Nasher, a professional beautician says that due to its creamy nature, yoghurt has great benefits for dry skin." First of all, it has got to be plain yoghurt with no added sugars or flavors. Most people prefer Greek yogurt but even one from your local supermarket can work as long as it is plain," she says.

One of the uses is as an ingredient for DIY face masks.  Nasher says there are many recipes in which yoghurt can be added to make a rich face mask which one can use at least once a week for softer more moisturises skin. She gives a few examples:Mix1 teaspoon plain youghurt,2 teaspoons tumeric,1/ teaspoon raw honey 1/2 teaspoon lemon Apply to washed face and leave on for 20 minutes then rinse off with water, pat dry and moisturize.This she says is a good mask for brightening the skin naturally.Mix2 tbsp yoghurt 2 tsp lemon juice Apply to skin and rinse off after 15 minutes. This is gives the skin a glowShe says that yoghurt can be used with many other ingredients like oatmeal,qasil powder,aloe Vera to make face masks.It also acts as a hair mask and is an effective DIY ingredient.Ashraf Katongole a professional hairdresser says that yoghurt softens hair and recommends it especially for natural hair.He says yoghurt has lots of protein which nourishes the hair. It is fatty and has lactic acid,good for maintenance of a healthy scalp " Most naturalistas like experimenting with DIY hair masks and it is a good ingredient to add in the mixtures," he says.

Mix1 tsp olive oil1 tbsp honey1/4 cup yoghurtShampoo the hair and apply the mixture,then leave on for 20 minutes. And rinse off with warm water. Katongole says this mask is very good for dry hair as it moisturises and softens it making it more manageable.If the hair frizzes alot mix2 tbsp yoghurt1 tbsp honeyApply to the hair and add heat either using a warm towel or heating cap for  20 minutes then rinse and continue to style.Done once a week this treatment will keep the hair in good health condition.
