Club Guvnor was buzzing last Saturday as revellers flocked to the Kampala nightclub for its popular Saturday Night Fever, with rising singer Tracy Melon taking centre stage for a live performance that kept the party going into the early hours.

By midnight, parking around First Street in Industrial Area was becoming scarce as partygoers streamed in, some arriving as early as 9:00pm to shake off the stress of the past week. DJs kept the crowd entertained with popular hits, while emcees worked the room, showering praise on revellers who splashed out on expensive bottles.

At 3:15am, Melon finally made her entrance, dressed in a shimmering bomber jacket and chocolate-brown faux-leather cargo pants.

She kicked off her set with Kakana, making her way through the crowd from the backstage entrance to loud cheers from fans who were still alert enough to appreciate the moment.

The singer’s recent illness, which reportedly left her noticeably slimmer, appeared to have done little to dampen her vocal delivery. As she sang, revellers edged closer to the stage, eager to catch a glimpse of the rising star.

Phones came out as partygoers recorded videos and snapped pictures with friends near the performer. Others sang along to familiar tracks, including Tovayo, Totta and Kakana.

Not everyone in the club knew Melon by name, but her performance offered an introduction. Even those who had not followed her music had a chance to put a face—and a name—to the voice on stage.

After about 25 minutes, she wrapped up her set with Ogenda Kukilaba, a song that appeared to strike a familiar chord with many in the club.

When the DJ played the track, the response was immediate. Revellers who had spent much of the night nursing their drinks suddenly found fresh energy, dancing in their corners with hands raised. For a moment, it was as if the song had jolted even the most exhausted partygoers back to life.

Melon may have had only 25 minutes on stage, but she left the crowd with a memorable late-night moment.
