Same same old Sheebah, again
Stress Killer has a lot going for it; the song also has a lot going against it.

Stress Killer is Sheebah’s latest single. The song dropped with a snazzy video from Edrine Paul that is actually pretty impressive, with some great shots, tight editing and excellent sound effects.
The choreography is also neatly done while they thew everything at the wardrobe.
They had to throw everything at the wardrobe. Stress Killer has lyrics like:
‘I see you wanna touch dis ma body/Come on show me your wallet and I will show you ma body’
Stress Killer has a lot going for it; the song also has a lot going against it. On the plus side, it is your typical Sheebah street anthem, typical of a woman who picked herself by the bootstraps and cut a swarth into the jungle of the music industry.
Sheebah is something of a phenomenon, a woman who insisted upon herself, an insistence that worked. And she has tons of adoring and admiring female fans that look up to her for this.
Those fans can turn a little rabid online, though. But that’s a story for another day. Stress Killer is built around a dancehall-pop groove, a medium that Sheebah uses well to deliver her frenetic, live-in-the-moment approach to music.
I thought Stress Killer was alright as a track; I just felt that maybe Sheebah is becoming just a little bit predictable?
Provocative, edgy lyrics? Check. Music video where she is strutting her stuff against a hedonist backdrop? Check. Dancehall groove? Check. Simplistic arrangement? Check. References to a body she has kept in admittedly impressive shape? Check.
The fans love it, the formula works, but you can’t help but wish she would throw in a surprise or two, eh? When did Sheebah last catch us off-guard?
You never change a winning formula and it is true that Sheebah is a commercial success. But surely the thought occurs to her once in a while. Because one can’t help but think that Sheebah’s music still works because the industry itself really has nothing to offer, and whatever it is offering is dross.
It would be nice if Sheebah surprised us or caught us off-guard.
