Renowned Hollywood movie actor Terence Howard visits Uganda

Renown Hollywood movie actor, Terrence Howard has arrived in the country for a private visit.  

Howard was welcomed by Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries Minister Frank Tumwebaze together with his wife Florence Kabibi. 

In a tweet on Monday, July 11, Tumwebaze said: “Glad to welcome our friend and a friend of Uganda, Terrence Howard, and his dear wife to the Pearl of Africa. Terrence is a famous American actor and a tech-prenuer. He will explore Uganda's uniqueness and spread the word."

Howard played his first major roles in the 1995 films Dead Presidents and Mr. Holland's Opus, Howard broke into the mainstream with a succession of television and cinema roles between 2004 and 2006. 

He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Hustle and Flow. 

Howard has had prominent roles in many other movies, including Winnie Mandela, Ray, Lackawanna Blues, Crash, Four Brothers, Big Momma's House, Get Rich or Die Tryin', Idlewild, Biker Boyz, August Rush, The Brave One, and Prisoners. 

Howard played James "Rhodey" Rhodes in the first Iron Man film. 

He starred as the lead character Lucious Lyon in the television series Empire. His debut album, Shine Through It, was released in September 2008. 

In September 2019, Howard announced that he had retired from acting, as he was "tired of pretending". 

However, on February 1, 2021, it was announced that Howard would star in the British sci-fi/thriller film Beneath. 

Howard joins a long list of other prominent celebrities who have visited Uganda. 

Some of these include renowned Senegalese-American musician, investor and philanthropist Aliaune Damala Badara Thiam, popularly known as Akon, and American rapper Ye, formerly Kanye West, who also visited the country in 2018 and met President Yoweri Museveni at the Statehouse, in Entebbe.
