In a low-key mode, American actor Terrence Howard, famous for his role in the Fox TV series – Empire – jetted into the country on Monday, July 11, accompanied by his wife, Mira Park.
He was welcomed by agriculture minister Frank Tumwebaze and hosted by Emburara Farm Lodge, a luxury hotel in Mbarara.
From a Facebook post put up on July 12 by Emburara Farm Lodge, Howard and wife are in the country mainly for tourism purposes, itching to glance at Uganda’s visible and hidden attractions.
The highlight of Howard’s visit, so far, has been his visit to State House, Nakasero, earlier today, July 13, where he met President Yoweri Museveni and ICT state minister Joyce Ssebugwawo.
During his visit at State House, Howard expressed his love for Uganda, putting emphasis on its beauty, people and food.
He stated to the President that, “Mr President, when I return, I’m going to tell the world about Uganda’s beauty.”
What stood out of his remarks, however, was his intentions to invest in Uganda’s ICT and tourism sectors.
With his achievements in the science and technology sector, Howard said: “My purpose and mission is to bring balance to our planet by restoring a safe place for the animal kingdom to thrive and to bring mankind into a new era of truth, love and consciousness.”
Howard now becomes another international star to promise to invest in Uganda.
American rapper Kanye West also promised to invest in Uganda’s arts sector, when he visited with his ex-wife, beauty mogul Kim Kardashian, in 2018.
In 2021, another American musician – Akon – promised to build a smart city in Uganda, dubbed Akon City. In fact, land was allocated to this cause by the Government, never to hear from Akon again about this promise.
Is Howard’s talk simply one of those other excitement-filled promises? We wait to see.
