At the end of 2023, a host of daring Ugandans started a trend of attempting to break various Guinness World Records.

From Phaneroo Ministry's longest applause, Mama D's longest cookathon attempt, Faith Ariokot's tree hugging record, to Raymond Kahuma's fastest chapati cooking record, social media was kept abuzz with which record to break next.

Close to three months after the last record attempt, Ugandan rapper Zed Monk Omutontomi revives the buzz with an attempt to break the world record for longest rap marathon. Yeah, someone wants to rap until they lose their breath.

Currently, the record is held by Japanese rapper - Poney - standing at 48 hours and 10 minutes. Poney broke the record in 2023, breaking Daniel Alcon's 39-hour record. Upon his record breaker, Poney said: "Now that my record is nine hours longer than the previous record, it will be hard to anyone else to break it."

In total disregard of Poney's bravado, Zed Monk seeks to hit 55 hours of a nonstop rapping marathon. During a TV interview on Tuesday, April 16, Monk said the record attempt will start on May 3, at Namaste Restaurant and Bar, Kampala.

"Because of copyright, my team and I will use our own beats and sounds, produced by a variety of produced have already accepted to support me," he stated.

Monk revealed that his attempt to break the record stems from his journey as a hip hop artiste and rap battle enthusiast.

"I have so far won 150 rap battles. I recently held a rap marathon of close to eight hours, only that it was not recorded. So, I want to shoot for the stars, by attempting to break the current world record," he said.

If someone can attempt to rap for close to three days, perhaps it should not shock anyone if another Ugandan attempts to yawn nonstop for a week.
