Mama D set for second shot at longest cooking Guinness world record

May 01, 2024

In a video released on her X page, she has revealed that "the footage we submitted to Guinness World Records was reported to be blurry and full of media coverage. I was asked for further evidence, hence the second chance to attempt breaking the record again,"

Chef Mama D's second shot is slated for June 1, at her kitchen located at High Note Bar, Kampala.

Celebrated chef Dorcus Basheba alias Mama D on Wednesday, May 1, revealed that she will make a second attempt to breaking the Guinness World Record for longest cooking marathon. Her second shot is slated for June 1, at her kitchen located at High Note Bar, Kampala.

Towards the end of 2023, Mama D had a host of social media junkies, celebrities, elites and bored corporate employees crowding her kitchen in Kira, as she went on relentlessly with the cookathon record.

The challenge had social media in a chokehold, with no breathing space, especially with the tweeps who kept X occupied with updates minute after another.

At the time, Mama D was attempting to break Irish chef Alan Fisher's record, which stood at 119 hours and 57 minutes. However, she failed to beat this officially, despite hitting 148 hours.

In a video released on her X page, she has revealed that "the footage we submitted to Guinness World Records was reported to be blurry and full of media coverage. I was asked for further evidence, hence the second chance to attempt breaking the record again,"

After her attempt, last year, several other chefs across Africa came out to attempt the same record, the most notable one being Ghanaian Abdul-Razak Falia, who failed at it.

This, according to Mama D, is a testament that she still has a chance at breaking the record.

The current record still stands at 119 hours and 57 minutes by Fisher, who took it from Nigerian chef Hilda Baci.

If Mama D is to have better, clearer video evidence, this time, perhaps those of you who flocked her small space, last time, to wrestle for food, guzzle down bottles of beer, and dance to Amapiano all day and night, should, this time, act better.
