Singer Pia Pounds says moving to the United States has helped her rediscover her creative spark after two years of struggling to write and sing. Apparently, even hitmakers sometimes need a change of scenery to get their groove back.
The singer, whose real name is Tracy Kirabo, revealed in her latest vlog that she left Uganda for the US in July, describing the move as one of the best decisions she has ever made.
According to Pia, America has not only felt like home but also unlocked a side of her that had been gathering dust for years.
“When I landed, I felt home. It felt like I belonged. As if some version of me had been locked away all my life waiting for me to be here,” she said.
Before crossing the Atlantic, Pia had been battling writer’s block for two years. The words were not flowing, the songs were not coming, and her enthusiasm for music had taken a nosedive.
For an artiste, two years without creative inspiration can feel like a lifetime. But rather than wait for her musical batteries to recharge themselves, Pia, famous for songs like Tupaate, Bitimba and Taala, decided to change her surroundings.
“I believe my fans will be proud of me. Your girl is trying to represent her country beyond borders. I’m trying to be better than I was yesterday, and I’m trying to enjoy the journey. "The highs, the lows – it is all a part of the transition which will end in glory,” she said.
Pia is now pursuing her music ambitions while also making strides in fashion. She has embarked on a US tour, with performances in Denver and Boston, Massachusetts, among other cities.
But before anyone starts wondering whether she has permanently traded Uganda for the US, the singer says her stay is only for six months.
