Hair looks great during the day, however, keeping it safe overnight is a different issue.

When Rita. K. Wova still wore chemical-treated hair, the night she retouched would be difficult.

"I would wake up with my hair flat and thin on the scalp even if I had done treatment after retouch, so the hair getting body needed about two weeks. When I went natural, there was the issue of keeping curls wavy overnight," she says.

Paul Kamya, a hairdresser, says when the hair is chemically treated, wrap it and secure it with a satin bonnet or a hair net. The morning after, use a wide-toothed comb and the style will bounce back.

He emphasises the need to cover hair overnight to keep it from losing moisture and having it dishevelled.

"When you are wearing a protective style like braids, weave or cornrows, endeavour to wrap them in a satin bonnet to keep them intact," he says.

Kamya points out that some people sweat a lot during the night and prefer not to cover their hair, so they should cover the pillow with a satin pillowcase.

Overnight hair care in protective styles requires letting down ponytails, and high buns so that the hair can breathe and the hairline is protected from shedding.

In case the hair is chemically relaxed and you need body, use foam rollers because they are soft enough to sleep on.

"They are washable and can be kept clean to avoid scalp infections," he says
