SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

-First Reading -  1 Kings 3:5, 7-12; At Gibeon, God appears to Solomon in a dream and offers him anything. Solomon asks for “an understanding mind to govern your people.” God is pleased and grants him wisdom, plus riches and honor.

2. Responsorial Psalm; Psalm 119:57, 72, 76-77, 127-130- Response: Lord, I love your commands.
A prayer delighting in God’s law and wisdom.

3. Second Reading: Romans 8:28-30 “For those who love God all things work together for good.”
Paul speaks of God’s plan: foreknown, predestined, called, justified, and glorified in Christ.

4. Gospel: Matthew 13:44-52  (or Matthew 13:44-46); Jesus tells 3 parables:  The treasure hidden in a field . The pearl of great price  The net thrown into the sea. The Kingdom is worth giving up everything for. “Every scribe trained for the kingdom is like a householder who brings out treasure new and old.” -

The 6th World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly - Theme: "I will never forget you." (Isaiah 49:15): Instituted by Pope Francis in 2021, the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly celebrates the important role of older people in families, the Church, and society. It encourages younger generations to honor, accompany, and learn from their grandparents and the elderly, recognizing them as witnesses of faith, wisdom, and hope.

- The 2026 theme reminds us that hope is a gift that grows stronger with faith. Grandparents and the elderly are called to remain signs of hope through their prayers, life experience, perseverance, and love, while families and communities are encouraged to care for them with dignity and gratitude.
