Events promoter Nobat Events is set to spend Christmas behind bars after the Makindye Magistrates Court extended his remand until December 30, 2026.
Nobat, whose real name is Norbert Twizire, appeared in court on Monday, October 26, alongside fellow promoter Twaha Mujabi. However, the case failed to proceed because the presiding magistrate was attending a judges’ conference at Hotel Africana.
The latest development means the two promoters will remain on remand through Christmas as they await their next court appearance.
Twizire’s arrival at court attracted a large crowd of youths who had gathered to demand that he pay them. Dressed in a Muslim cap and face mask, the promoter appeared unfazed by the charged atmosphere, flashing a victory sign at the crowd as he made his way into the court premises.
Security was tight, with a heavy deployment of personnel to maintain order amid the growing tension.
The promoters are facing allegations linked to the management of funds belonging to the Kampala and Beyond United Music Promoters SACCO.
They are accused of mismanaging approximately Sh1 billion in government funds released to the SACCO, as well as about Sh31.9 million in members’ savings.
Twizire’s legal troubles come after he was reportedly detained at Katwe Police Station over allegations relating to the handling of the SACCO funds.
The case has sparked tensions among music promoters, with the youths who gathered at court demanding accountability over the money.
The two promoters are expected to return to court on December 30, 2026, as the legal proceedings continue.
