Musicians, fans mourn Nalongo Maggie Kiweesi

Ugandan musicians Faisal Sseguya, popularly known as Rabadaba, and Deus Ndugwa, alias Grenade Official, have joined family, friends, and members of Uganda's entertainment industry in mourning the death of Nalongo Maggie Kiweesi, the mother of the children of the late musician Emmanuel Mayanja (AK47).

Kiweesi's passing has drawn widespread public attention, with condolences continuing to pour in from fans and public figures.

Rabadaba, who was previously married to Kiweesi, expressed shock at her death in a social media tribute, describing her passing as painful. The two held a traditional introduction ceremony in 2011 but later separated.

In a 2024 interview, Kiweesi said their divorce was amicable and based on mutual understanding after realizing they could no longer continue as husband and wife.

Following his tribute, some social media users criticized Rabadaba for disabling comments on his post and for referring to Kiweesi as "my friend," with some linking their past relationship to ongoing public debate. These reactions remain opinions expressed online and have not been substantiated.

Grenade Official, who was also allegedly in a relationship with Kiweesi, shared a brief message on social media saying, "Rest in peace, Nalongo Maggie." His tribute also attracted criticism from some online users after comments on the post were disabled.

Public reaction has remained divided. While many have praised the musicians for paying their respects, others have questioned the sincerity and timing of their tributes because of their past relationships with the deceased. Much of the criticism has been shared on social media and reflects public opinion rather than verified fact.

Media observers and public figures have urged Ugandans to avoid speculation and respect the family's privacy during the mourning period. Socialite Sheila Alia Nandege (Don Zella) appealed to the public to refrain from spreading unverified information, saying families should be allowed to share official updates without unnecessary misinformation.

As preparations for Kiweesi's burial continue, tributes from Uganda's entertainment fraternity continue to pour in, with many remembering her as a devoted mother whose life was closely connected to some of the country's prominent music personalities.
