Dancehall artiste Mura D'viral real name Alfa Sebunya has criticised comedians for mocking and ridiculing God in their skits, stating that such behaviour is disrespectful and could incite animosity towards the comedy entertainment industry.

During an interview, the singer suggested that many comedians have developed a habit of speaking negatively about Islam and other religious sectors, tarnishing their image with skits portraying believers in a negative light.

"Why disrespect religion for the sake of comedy? They speak ill about believers, using inappropriate examples," he expressed.

While acknowledging that these comedians often claim it's just humour, Mura D'viral emphasised that religion should not be a subject for jest but rather a serious matter guiding society in the right direction. He urged comedians to refrain from playing with religious sentiments and instead focus on protecting it, as directed by Allah in the Quran.

"Allah instructs us to safeguard Islam, and I am committed to protecting it. Despite being a musician, I don't cross the boundaries of Islam and cannot disrespect Allah," he asserted.

It's worth noting that several Ugandan comedians have long engaged in trolling religion on stage. Years ago, the late Sheikh Nuhu Muzaata, an outspoken Muslim cleric, pursued comedian MC Mariachi for making disrespectful comments about Islam in one of his comedy skits.
