Singer Martha Mukisa has sent a firm message to body shamers: her body is not up for public debate, renovation, or a committee meeting.
Speaking as a guest performer on radio, Mukisa opened up about some of her lowest moments, revealing that social media trolls have been particularly busy dissecting her post-maternity body—because apparently, some people have PhDs in other people’s bodies.
She made it clear that she has zero plans to undergo surgery simply to satisfy people whose hobbies include zooming into celebrities’ photos and issuing unsolicited body reports.
“I will not do surgery on any part of my body, but I will remain sexy as I am. I’m a very sexy woman. And whatever you are looking at and comparing me to, I already have it.”
Mukisa proudly defended her curves, saying she already has her “bum” and "boobies", and questioned when society stopped appreciating women for looking the way they were naturally created.
She also addressed the bizarre pressure placed on women to constantly modify themselves, noting that body shaming has become so normalised that people now apparently believe every woman needs to come with a before-and-after transformation.
For Mukisa, however, self-love has been the better survival strategy. “My body gives me joy. I feel different, and I’m not like anyone because we are all created differently.”
Mukisa was also careful to clarify that she has nothing against women who choose cosmetic surgery. Her point is simply that surgery should be a personal choice, not a punishment handed down by Instagram comment sections.
She encouraged women who want to embrace their natural bodies to focus on healthy habits such as working out and maintaining a balanced diet.
