Uganda Lacrosse national team coach Patrick Oriana is living a tale he never expected from being a club bouncer, and chicken seller to leading Uganda to its third World Lacrosse Men’s Championship.

The soft-spoken tactician who is one of the pioneers of lacrosse in Uganda believes it is a dream come true for the 2014 and 2018 Lacrosse Cranes captain who now sits in the dugout as a coach.

“I am glad to be part of this history-making team that is steering Uganda through the first African qualifiers for the World Lacrosse men’s Championships,” Oriana said.

"I have coached for more than six years but my persistence has enabled me to attain this milestone.”

The senior team he led to Nairobi as the assistant coach deputizing Michael Black was full of senior players who have played the sport for more than 10 years as well as the U21 players he led in Ireland.

Oriana believes his ability to balance both work and coaching is based on proper time management.

“As a player in 2018, I was an administrator at a construction company called BLD CONSULTS LTD during the day, and I also worked as a bouncer at Club Guvnor in the night," he said.

"Currently, I sell frozen chicken with a partner of mine. The shop is located in kikumi-kikumi, Makerere. As I try to figure out my way in life apart away the game."

He coached full-time in Kenya in 2019 as an assistant coach, an opportunity that taught him a lot which he is forever thankful for.
