For a few hours on Sunday night, Kampala forgot about its usual nightlife script and surrendered to the irresistible pull of the Caribbean.
The streets outside Guvnor in Industrial Area were transformed into a pulsating playground complete with sand and props as international soca and dancehall star Kevin Lyttle finally took the stage, sending revellers into a nostalgic frenzy with the sounds that made him a global sensation.
Lyttle was the headline act at the Serendipity Summer Splash Street Party, a day-to-night celebration that brought together Caribbean rhythms, dancehall, Afrobeat and Kampala's unmistakable party energy.

For fans who grew up dancing to the song, it was a trip down memory lane. The last time Lyttle performed in Uganda was back in 2007 at the Lugogo Cricket Oval, where he shared the stage alongside Jamaican artist Spragga Benz.
Lyttle, dressed in a neat suit and Fedora hat, worked the stage with the confidence of a performer who knows exactly what his audience came for, blending smooth vocals with infectious Caribbean grooves as revellers sang, danced and raised their phones to capture the moment.
The show had been billed as a tropical street carnival, and the organisers delivered. What began as a daytime celebration gradually morphed into a roaring night festival, with the streets around Guvnor filled with music, lights and partygoers amid the failing weather.
When the familiar rhythm of “Turn Me On” rang out, nostalgia took over. Phones went into the air, voices joined the chorus and the Guvnor Streetside crowd danced as though the song had never left the charts.
It was the kind of performance that reminded Kampala why certain songs never really grow old. They simply wait for the right night to turn everyone on.
Adding to the heavy star-studded lineup was Ugandan legend Kid Fox, who recently returned from Japan, thrilling the audience with a powerful performance.
