KAMPALA - Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has postponed the 2026 Kampala City Festival for health reasons.

The city had planned to host the 8th Kampala City Festival on October 4, 2026.

In a statement issued on July 7, KCCA officials said, “After consultations with key stakeholders, a difficult but necessary decision has been taken to postpone the festival to a future date that will be communicated once guidance is received.”

According to KCCA, the decision was taken because they prioritise the health and safety of residents, visitors and partners.

In August 2025, KCCA announced the return of a city festival. Then, KCCA executive director Sharifah Buzeki promised that the street party would be bigger, better, and bolder.

In March 2026, Buzeki officially launched the much-anticipated Kampala City Festival 2026 at the KCCA Gardens, marking the beginning of preparations for one of Uganda’s largest cultural and economic events.

The event brings together several stakeholders, including sponsors, partners, government leaders, and private sector players. The Kampala festival brings together thousands of revelers from in and out of the country.

In May this year, President Yoweri Museveni postponed the national Uganda Martyrs' Day celebrations scheduled for June 3 every year, at Namugongo, due to the outbreak of Ebola Bundibugyo in the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo.
