Kampala goes to the dogs, and it's glorious

The annual Kampala Walk Dog Festival was held on Sunday, September 27, climaxing with a showcase of different breeds of dogs.

Uganda was among the many countries commemorating World Rabies Day (September 28). The over three-kilometre stretch gave pedestrians and communities in the area a glimpse of different breeds adorned in outfits.
Jeff Ruganju, one of the organizers, said the participating dogs were screened and assessed before taking part in the walk. At the event, the participants (dogs) hit the runway in cosy knits and also featured on the red-carpet entrance.
Guests had an opportunity to see demonstrations of tracking, security and the capabilities of working dogs.
The Canine Association of Uganda conducted breed assessments, while groups like Animal Welfare Uganda showcased rescued dogs available for adoption and promoted responsible ownership.
