Luwero district has become the focus of growing concern over allegations of fraudulent practices by individuals posing as traditional healers.

At the forefront of the call for action is musician Jajja Kasozi Batuuka.

Batuuka has condemned a troubling trend in which unsuspecting residents are manipulated into believing they are victims of witchcraft.

Reports from community members suggest that some individuals secretly place suspicious objects in homes, gardens, businesses, and compounds, only to later present themselves as spiritual experts capable of “discovering” and removing the same items for a fee. This practice has left several families financially exploited and emotionally distressed, prompting calls for greater public awareness.

During community engagements, Batuuka urged Ugandans to remain cautious when confronted with claims designed to instill fear or panic. He emphasized that genuine cultural practices should never be used as tools of deception or financial exploitation.

“We must protect our people from individuals who use fear to enrich themselves. Culture should guide and educate communities, not be turned into a business of deception,” Batuuka said.

He has called upon local leaders, community elders, and relevant authorities to investigate reported cases and educate the public about fraudulent schemes targeting vulnerable families.

Born Tonney Kasozi, Jajja Kasozi Batuuka who is also a cultural artist, songwriter, traditional leader, entrepreneur, and heritage advocate, is widely recognized for promoting African cultural values through music, public education, and community outreach.

Over the years, Batuuka has built a reputation as a defender of indigenous knowledge and cultural preservation. Through his music and public engagements, he inspires young people to appreciate their roots while promoting integrity, self-awareness, and responsible leadership.
