Motor-mouthed blogger and social media influencer Tamale Mirundi Junior has attributed the hushed atmosphere among bloggers to the fatal shooting of their colleague, Ibrahim Tusubira alias Isma Olaxess, in May 2023.
In an interview with Bukedde TV, Mirundi Junior suggested that he and numerous other bloggers were rattled by the incident, prompting them to exercise caution and maintain a low profile after one of their own fell victim to violence.
"His death instilled fear in many of us, especially those of us who had transformed our platforms into relentless machines that disseminated information we were not truly knowledgeable about," he remarked.
Mirundi Junior disclosed that he opted to refrain from discussing sensitive matters, recognising the potential dangers that such content could pose.
He urged fellow bloggers to steer clear of malicious blogging, emphasising the dangers associated with tarnishing individuals' images and inciting trouble.
According to Mirundi Junior, individuals who have suffered harm over time may seek revenge, escalating the potential for disastrous consequences. He highlighted the considerable effort invested in building brands, businesses, and families, cautioning that bloggers jeopardise lives by championing the failures of others.
Furthermore, Mirundi Junior revealed that since Olaxess' assassination, many bloggers familiar with him have chosen to maintain a low profile, finding solace in alternative ventures.
It's worth noting that Isma Olaxess, also known as Jajja Iculi and the president of the Ugandan Bloggers Association, played a pivotal role in discussing various political and entertainment figures and events.
Despite adopting an analytical approach, Olaxess was notably critical of entertainers, political figures, and religious leaders. His untimely death left many Ugandans in shock.
