Nigerians have accused Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz of being a copycat, who has thrived off sampling some of countrymen's talents – Wizkid, Burna Boy, Asake, Naira Marley and Spyro. According to them, his songs are typically inspired by Nigerian artistes.
This was after fellow Tanzanian singer and a close friend of his, Juma Jux posted a video dancing to Nigerian singer, Davido’s song. Nigerians also listed seven songs they accuse Diamond of copying;
1.Juma Jux ft. Diamond – Enjoy, sampled Spyro – Who’s your Guy?
2.Diamond – Babalao, sampled Naira Marley – Soapy
3. Diamond – Gidi, sampled Wizkid – Show You The Money
4. Diamond – Loyal, sampled Wizkid ft. Tems – Essence
5. Diamond – Jeje, sampled Wizkid – Joro
6. Diamond – Gidi, sampled Burna Boy – Gbona
7. Diamond ft. Mbosso – Yataniua, sampled Asake – PBUY
The Wasafi boss, however, took offence and accused his critics of picking on him because of his success musically. Nigerian artistes, he said, are major culprits of music sampling going by how they have appropriated Amapiano to diversify their sound.
