Shanita Semwogerere, daughter of veteran Kadongo Kamu singer Abdul Mulaasi (also known as Abdul Ssemwogerere) and Bella Kamwenzi, has graduated with a degree in Nursing from St. Francis School of Health Sciences in Mukono.

Speaking in an interview while celebrating his daughter’s achievement, Mulaasi encouraged fellow artists, particularly musicians to invest in education and ensure their children receive quality schooling.

He noted that educated children can become a source of pride and support for their parents later in life.

Mulaasi said Shanita’s graduation marks the fulfillment of a long-held dream, achieved despite the financial challenges the family faced throughout her academic journey.

“I appeal to fellow artists, especially musicians, to invest in education and ensure that their children go to school. Education can be helpful to families in the future. Parents should prioritize school fees and their children’s education rather than spending money on luxuries. The money invested in education can transform an entire family,” Mulaasi said.

He praised Shanita for remaining focused on her studies despite financial difficulties and peer pressure.

“I appreciate my daughter Shanita for being disciplined and committed to her education. Unlike many young people who easily lose focus, she listened to her parents and pursued her studies with determination, even when resources were limited. Her dream was to study journalism and become a presenter, but her mother and I encouraged her to pursue a health-related course. We believed nursing would provide her with a stable future and opportunities to establish her own medical business. She accepted our advice and worked hard to achieve her goal.”

Mulaasi also commended Shanita’s mother, Bella Kamwenzi, for her dedication and commitment throughout their daughter’s upbringing.

“I want to appreciate Bella because she raised Shanita well and took great responsibility for her welfare. We worked together as parents to help our daughter become the strong woman she is today. There were times when I was unable to provide what was needed, and Bella stepped in without hesitation. She supported our daughter tirelessly,” he added.

The singer further advised women raising children with men they are not married to, urging them to work together in supporting their children’s education rather than relying entirely on the fathers.

“Women should not always wait for fathers to provide school fees. Delays can affect a child’s academic performance, attendance, and even lead to school dropouts. If a mother has the means, she should contribute toward her child’s education and welfare.

Sometimes men face financial challenges and may fail to communicate openly, which can create misunderstandings. I fought many battles to ensure my daughter completed her studies, and today I am proud because she graduated with good grades,” Mulaasi said.

Shanita also expressed gratitude to both her parents for supporting her throughout her educational journey.

“My father is a responsible parent who always played his role. Even when he did not have enough money, he remained present and supportive. My mother is a strong woman who helped me overcome every challenge I faced. Personally, I did not experience many difficulties because I had parents who loved, protected, and supported me throughout my studies,” Shanita said.
