Lately, young people have discovered a cash cow in content creation,  especially now that the world is largely digital and internet-infested.

Almost everyday, social media presents to us a self-acclaimed content creator,  so much so that the gig is becoming flooded.

A good number of these have actually gained immense traffic, hence attracting corporate brands for sponsorship. A lot of them,  especially those on YouTube and TikTok,  have become influencers for various brands.

However, while some a making a fortune out of creating random content, there is quite a flurry of many who are still struggling to cut their teeth.

During an interaction with creatives and aspiring content creators at the Guinness Bright House in Industrial Area,  Kampala on July 9, celebrated YouTuber, comedian, and mechanic – Moses Kiboneka (Uncle Mo) – tipped those who wish to join the industry or already in it,  but struggling,  on how to make it.

“To begin with, identify your niche in terms of content to put out there, and while you do this,  try to figure out something rather unique or virgin,  otherwise you risk getting lost in a huge crowd of content creators on TikTok and YouTube,” he said.

Mo then gave an example of himself while starting out.

He revealed that at some point, he had to scale from content that works for local audience only,  but the international market, too. “There are so many people doing local content here, and the competition is hard to beat,” he added.

For those who have gained a bit of traction, Mo advised them to be conscious on when to release content and when not to,  if they are to stay afloat and relevant.

He said some jokes in your content may not be relevant at a certain time or for a certain audience,  and if you insist on pushing the same,  you may lose out.

“Also,  when you notice that so many content creators are jumping onto a certain trending topic or challenge, you might want to hold on a bit before releasing your own content, otherwise it may drown in there. Look out for scarcity of content,  and then release something,” Mo cautioned.

For those still struggling with sponsorship and influencer deals, he had something for you; it is just not yet the time for you.

Mo revealed that when he was starting out, he approached a certain corporate company for sponsorship,  only to be disappointed severally that,  there is no budget for that.

“Later,  the same company came looking for me with a budget, and they keep renewing the contract. So, if you are not getting sponsorship yet, it simply means sponsors are not yet attracted to you. Position yourself in the direction of which corporate brands you would want to notice you,  and make sure you grow your work and numbers. The time will come,” he advised.
