Ugandan comedian Yokana Mbuuse, popularly known as Kapere Lufotose, will be laid to rest on Tuesday at 4:00pm in Mukono, following his sudden death on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

The funeral programme will include a vigil at the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters in Makerere-Kavule, where friends, fellow entertainers, party members and members of the public will gather to pay their last respects to the celebrated comedian.

Kapere's manager, Kayanja, announced the burial arrangements during an interview with journalists, explaining that the family was determined to honour the entertainer's final wishes.

According to Kayanja, Kapere had previously communicated his burial wishes to his wife, close friends and son, Trump, expressing his desire to be laid to rest on a piece of land he had personally purchased in Mukono.

He said the family and management were committed to fulfilling that wish as preparations for the comedian's final send-off continued.

Circumstances Surrounding His Death

Kapere's death came as a shock to his family, friends and fans, with reports indicating that he collapsed while visiting his children at Jolibo Day Care and Junior School on Sunday.

According to accounts from people who witnessed the incident, the comedian had accompanied his wife to the school, where they were visiting their children.

One parent reportedly said pupils in the top class were preparing to cut a cake when Kapere suddenly dropped to his knees, leaving those present, including his wife, in panic.

Witnesses said people rushed to his assistance and laid him on a mat as efforts were made to get him medical attention.

He was reportedly taken to Zam Zam Clinic before being transferred to another medical facility in Buddo, Wakiso District, where he later died.

Although initial reports indicated that Kapere had not been suffering from any known illness, the exact cause of his sudden collapse and death had not been officially established by the time of publication.

News of his death was first widely circulated on social media before being confirmed by prominent figures within the National Unity Platform.

NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, described the comedian as a dear friend, brother and comrade whose humour brought light into difficult moments.

"A few moments back, I just received the most devastating news regarding the untimely passing of our brother, dear friend and comrade Yokana Mbuuse fondly called Kapere Lufotose. A man who made every dark moment light. A man who loved his country and wished it well! A loss so difficult to take in," Kyagulanyi wrote.

NUP spokesperson and Leader of the Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi also mourned Kapere, revealing that they had met at the party headquarters in Kavule just a week before his death.

NUP Headquarters to Host Vigil

Before the burial, Kapere's body will be taken to the NUP headquarters in Makerere-Kavule for a vigil, giving party members, friends, supporters and members of the public an opportunity to pay their last respects.

Kayanja said the decision to include the party headquarters in the funeral programme was informed by Kapere's close attachment to the political organisation and the support he had received from its members.

"Kapere is going to be taken to the National Unity Platform headquarters in Makerere-Kavule for a vigil because he has been having this party at his heart and they have done a lot of things for him," Kayanja said.

The manager also revealed that the family was exploring the possibility of taking the comedian's body to the National Theatre, although the arrangements were still subject to approval from the relevant authorities.

"If they permit us to take his corpse to the National Theatre, we will do that," he added.

A Familiar Face in Uganda's Comedy Industry

Kapere rose to national prominence as a member of the Amarula Family comedy group, alongside Allan Mujuni, popularly known as Amooti Omubalanguzi, and Nicholas Mpiirwe, alias Messe Bontwe.

He became widely recognised for his distinctive facial expressions, comic performances and the popular Lufotose character, which endeared him to audiences across the country.

Beyond comedy, he also featured in music videos, most notably Bobi Wine's hit song Mr. Money, in which he portrayed a wealthy man flaunting his riches in pursuit of love.

His relationship with Bobi Wine extended beyond entertainment, with Kapere becoming an active supporter of NUP and expressing interest in pursuing elective politics.

His death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from political leaders, fellow entertainers and fans, many of whom have remembered him for his ability to turn difficult moments into laughter.
