Kyambogo was in a soulful mood last week as the BlackRoots Academy of Soul took revellers on a smooth ride through timeless soul and blues classics at Fratelli Bar and Grill along East African Road.
The intimate garden setting provided the perfect backdrop for an evening of music, food and easy conversation. By 9pm, the venue was buzzing, with guests settling in over hearty meals and cold drinks ahead of the main performance.

And speaking of plates, the food clearly had its own following. While some guests were busy singing every word, others appeared more interested in making sure nothing was left on their plates.
The night also had its share of celebrity-style caution. Despite a notice at the entrance permitting photography and video recording, some guests politely asked photographers to respect their privacy.
By 11pm, birthday celebrants were invited onto the stage to dance with the band, adding another layer of fun to an already lively night. A few, however, kept their faces away from the cameras.
Fratelli may not be the flashiest spot in town, but that is hardly the point. Its charm lies in its cosy setting, good food, music and the easy-going company that makes a night out feel less like an event and more like a gathering of friends.
