Not even the rain could dampen the spirits of fans who were at the Millennium Grounds in Lugogo, Kampala on Saturday night for Afrigo Band’s 50th anniversary concert.
The evening’s rhythm was first set by Abeeka Band, who serenaded the crowd until 8:47pm. There were also the touching tributes, with phone lights, to honor Afrigo’s fallen musicians.
At 9:45pm sharp, Afrigo stormed the stage through a cloud of pop smoke, dressed in immaculate black suits. The air vibrated as Sarah Namulondo’s voice pierced through the night, soon joined by Moses Matovu.
Together, they launched into Ba Afrigo Babo Batuse. Joanita Kawalya swept in with Ntongo, followed by Racheal Magoola commanding the stage with Emali and Ndikwambalanga Nga Ekooti.
Each note was flawless, each harmony divine. From Jim Wange to Bera Nowuwo, and the timeless Obangaina, Afrigo transported the crowd across generations of sound.
The night sky exploded into a breathtaking moment with an over five minute fireworks display, an ode to the band.

At 11:15pm, Congolese star Koffi Olomide stepped on stage, preceded by Cindy’s fiery opener. With charisma and groove, Koffi applauded Ugandans as “the best party lovers in Africa,” before unleashing seven electrifying hits alongside Afrigo’s own musicians. His set closed at 11:55pm.
Midnight brought Afrigo back, brighter than ever. Joanita Kawalya, draped in a dazzling gold-stoned gomesi, set the stage alight with Wololo, her voice soaring amidst cheers.

“Greetings to all who have gathered to celebrate Afrigo Band tonight. I wish you a warm, joyful, and truly entertaining evening,” read the Kabaka’s message.
