Afrigo Band set for golden jubilee concert
Titled Legends of Sound, Afrigo at 50, the golden jubilee concert promises more than music; it's shaping up to be a heartfelt tribute to a band that has not only entertained but defined Uganda’s musical identity for half a century.

KAMPALA - There are concerts and then there are cultural milestones. On August 16th, Lugogo Millennium Grounds will echo with decades of rhythm and timeless Ugandan sound as Afrigo Band, the country's most iconic musical outfit, celebrates an awe-inspiring 50 years of work.
Titled Legends of Sound, Afrigo at 50, the golden jubilee concert promises more than music; it's shaping up to be a heartfelt tribute to a band that has not only entertained but defined Uganda’s musical identity for half a century.
But before the spotlight hits the stage, the legends themselves took a moment to reflect with a symbolic visit to Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) in Port Bell, Luzira.
Amid warm smiles and fond memories, Afrigo Band members presented specially designed golden tickets to the UBL executive team, a symbolic gesture honouring a long-standing relationship and laying the groundwork for what could easily be Uganda’s concert of the decade.
“Afrigo Band embodies everything Tusker Malt stands for - longevity, authenticity, quality, and craftsmanship,” shared Catherine Ndungu, UBL’s Marketing and Innovations Director.
“Afrigo’s ability to remain relevant across generations is extraordinary. This collaboration isn’t just business, it’s legacy meeting legacy. Afrigo is more than just a band,” said Ali Alibhai, the show’s promoter.
Emotions ran even deeper when Afrigo’s Executive Director James Wasula reminisced about their roots and first steps with UBL. “UBL was one of the earliest to believe in us. We weren’t just playing music, we were sharing culture and storytelling through sound. Returning here feels like coming full circle,” he said.
