Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) has developed a national athletics safeguard policy to protect and safeguard the rights of athletes from any form of abuse.
The Federation president Dominic Otuchet disclosed this on December 4, during a media briefing at the Federation offices in Kampala.
Otuchet noted that he will at no time tolerate the abuse of female athletes by any of the federation officials.
“We have come up with the National Athletics Safeguard policy that must be adhered to by any official,” Otuchet said.
“I have emphasised to the officials that these athletes must be treated like their children and I do not at any time expect any abuse and I will not tolerate it,” Otuchet said.
He urged athletes to embrace education, and open and operate emails because World Athletics sends information concerning athletes and doping to their emails.
“Not all people who fail doping are culprits, but sometimes because the information is sent on their emails, and many do not have them. So, I call upon them to open emails,” Otuchet said.
He also congratulated Joshua Cheptegei for completing his first marathon because it is not easy.
Cheptegei, on Sunday, December 3, 2023, participated in the Valencia Marathon in which he posted 2hrs 8.59 minutes and was 32nd overall.
