As Uganda and the rest of the world continue to bear the brunt of climate change, efforts aimed at mitigating or adapting to climate change are happening in Ugandan schools under the Green Schools Initiative, which is which is in its second year of implementation by Vision Group in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and funded by the Embassy of Sweden in Uganda.

At Oleba Seed Secondary School in Maracha district, West Nile sub-region, the trees standing tall within the school compound do more than just beautify the open space.

"The environment has been hot. We don't have a library in reality. What we have here is a like a bookshop. So in order to allow the growing number of students here to read, our library is the trees that are in the compound," says Jesca Okundwo, the Green Schools Initiative coordinator of Oleba Seed Secondary School.
