Uganda Deans of Students Forum honours former leaders
The former deans were recognised on Thursday during the closure of the 10th Annual Deans of Students and 18th Guild Leaders Conference held at Bishop Stuart University in Mbarara City.

Uganda Deans of Students Forum has honoured its past leaders, recognising their exceptional service in fostering students’ growth and maintaining university stability over the years.
The former deans were recognised on Thursday during the closure of the 10th Annual Deans of Students and 18th Guild Leaders Conference held at Bishop Stuart University in Mbarara City.
Participants at the conference highlighted how these former deans laid the groundwork for modern student affairs and crisis management in Ugandan universities.

Those who were recognised included Emmanuel Kyagaba, former dean of students, Mbarara University of Science and Technology; Rev. Canon Francis Muhangi, former dean, Bishop Stuart University; and Dr Sulait Dawuda Kabali, former dean, Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU).
Others were Christopher Kimuli, former dean, Nkumba University; Sophia Acon, former dean, Busitema University; Medard Nabasa, former dean, Cavendish University; Emma Aceng, former dean, Lira University; and Fredrick Mutabaruka, former dean, Mountains of the Moon University.
In his closing remarks, Professor John Mugisha, Vice Chancellor of Bishop Stuart University, praised the Deans of Students Forum for strengthening institutional cooperation and urged all universities, colleges, and tertiary institutions to join the forum of deans.

Ronald Taremwa Bamuhayira, the deputy mayor Mbarara City, who was the chief guest at the event, hailed the role played by the Deans of Students in the management of universities but challenged them to use their forum to tackle challenges faced by universities, including strikes and other crimes committed by students.
He also challenged the government through the Ministry of Education to support universities and other institutions to have well-equipped and facilitated units for counselling students.
He urged university deans to extend their support to lower levels of education, including primary and secondary schools.
