A place in the final of the Pepsi University Football League is up for grabs as two-time winners MUBS (2014 and 2015) and 2019 champions UCU who meet Thursday in the semifinal return leg in Mukono.

Both sides are still locked at 1-1 after sharing spoils in the first leg in Nakawa but it is UCU that comes into today’s match with an extra advantage having scored an away goal which means that any goalless draw is enough to send them to the final courtesy of the away goals rule.

MUBS coach William Kasozi believes that the return of Deus Turyamuhika is going to boost his defence because his absence in the first leg created room for UCU to get to their goalkeeper so easily, something that proved costly in the end as Geoffrey Gagganga utilised this opportunity to score for UCU in the second half.

“We should have won the first leg because we had done everything according to script until we made a mistake in defence in the second which was partly due to the absence of my Deus Turyamuhika who was suspended due to yellow cards,” said Kasozi.

“But he is back and available for selection, with him at the back and an improvement at the front, we have a chance to go to Mukono and win the game.”

Kasozi’s side is aiming to reach the final for the first time since 2017 but unfortunately lost that final to Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi.

MUBS also wants revenge on UCU for denying them bronze last season when they beat them on penalties in the third-place playoff.

Moses Kasinga, Sudir Bin Said, Derrick Otuke, and Benjamin Nazar are some of the players who will need to come to the party if MUBS is to go past a fancied UCU side.

On UCU’s side, head coach Jimmy Kintu anticipates a tough game from the visitors (MUBS) because they showed it already that they can be very good away from home during the game against Bugema in the quarterfinals.

“It is going to be a very difficult game, we both have equal chances much as we are at home with an away goal but MUBS are a good team and have shown already that they can be dangerous away from home,”

“But we have prepared well on how to stop them so that we get to the final,” noted Kintu.
