HOIMA — Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examination papers in several schools in Hoima district arrived late, with headteachers and supervisors blaming the bad roads for the delay.
Nationally, 503,214 candidates registered for the UCE examinations, which commenced today (October 12) with Mathematics and Chemistry papers.
At Buseruka secondary school in Buseruka sub-county, the candidates had to wait for about 30 minutes before starting to write their first paper.
At Kigorobya seed secondary school, the paper started at 9:15 am, while at St Patrick's secondary school, there was a delay of almost 30 minutes from the official starting time.
“The exams were delayed, but finally they arrived at school, and candidates have been able to do their examinations. I think this could be because of the early morning drizzle,” said Yusta Kemigisha, an examination supervisor in Hoima.
According to Alex Tumuhimbise, the district information officer, they had obtained information that all the schools had received their papers and that the examinations started peacefully.
However, several schools in Hoima City received their papers on time. By 7:00am, several headteachers and education officials were at Hoima Central police station ready to start collecting the examination papers.
Johnson Kusiima Baingana, the Hoima city education officer, said the exams arrived on time and there were no major cases recorded.
