_____________

WAKISO — In 1942, Bishop Edward Michaud of the Catholic missionary society of the White Fathers founded Trinity College Nabbingo (TRICONA). The school, on Masaka Road, in Wakiso district, started humbly, with just 21 young girls. Today, it enjoys global admiration as a beacon of excellence in girl-child education.

The school’s achievements were highlighted with even greater admiration during the celebration of its 84th anniversary on June 14.

Activities started with Mass presided over by the Bishop of Masaka, the Rt. Rev. Serverus Jjumba, who paid tribute to the school’s successive headteachers and boards of governors for remaining true to the objectives of the founders of the school.

Buganda Katikkiro speaks

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, who was the chief guest, glorified the school as one of Uganda’s most distinguished and historic institutions of learning, which had shaped countless generations of remarkable women.

The Katikkiro paid tribute to the old girls who excelled in various vocations such as education, business, entrepreneurship, medicine, science and technology and social service, calling them living testimonies of the school’s contribution to the country and humanity.

He thanked the foundation body, the successive administrators and all the stakeholders for keeping the school’s legacy of integrity, service, discipline and teamwork, before challenging them to set even higher standards.

“Continue promoting quality education. Strive for excellence not only in academics, but also in leadership development,” Mayiga said.

What the headteacher says

The headteacher, Immaculate Nassozi Lwanga, reassured the stakeholders that the school had raised its standards higher, both in academics and co-curricular/skills development. She paid tribute to Bishop Edward Michaud for bearing the vision of TRICONA. She also thanked Stanislaus Mugwanya and his son, Mulo, for donating the land on which the school stands.

A staunch Catholic, Mugwanya was the katikkiro of Buganda during Kabaka Daudi Chwa’s reign and a regent.

Support and Projects

Nassozi further thanked the successive archbishops of Kampala Archdiocese, the Government and stakeholders for their support and goodwill.
