At least two seed secondary schools in Soroti district are set to receive laboratory and ICT equipment to enhance science and technology education.
The beneficiary schools, Kamuda Seed Secondary School and Dakabela Seed Secondary School, will be equipped with science kits, chemical reagents, and ICT tools as part of a broader government initiative aimed at improving educational standards in seed schools across Uganda.
The equipment, valued at shillings 56 million for science materials and shillings 165 million for ICT tools, is expected to address resource gaps and foster a more conducive learning environment.
According to James Oede, the Soroti district education officer, many seed schools struggle with inadequate facilities, such as the absence of computers, dilapidated laboratories, and unreliable electricity supply.
Oede said the new equipment will significantly improve the teaching and learning of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), in line with the government’s emphasis on boosting STEM education in rural communities.
Soroti District currently has five government-aided secondary schools. The latest interventions are expected to uplift overall academic performance, particularly in science subjects.
