The Bishop of the Church of Uganda's Soroti Diocese, Kosea Odongo, has called on parents to prioritise their children's education as a crucial step toward improving academic performance in the Teso region.
Speaking during a thanksgiving ceremony and visitation day on Sunday, March 23, at Bethany Girls Comprehensive Secondary School—a school founded by the church—Bishop Odongo urged parents to invest in education by purchasing essential scholastic materials for their children.
Dr John Ekure, the director of Kumi Orthopaedic Centre and the guest at the event, echoed this message by encouraging students to remain disciplined and dedicated to their studies. He reminded them to keep their goals in sight.
In a generous gesture, Dr Ekure announced his commitment to donate three computers to the school in the upcoming financial year.
Martin Okiria Obore, the school’s resident director, expressed his delight at the school's improving academic performance. To celebrate the achievements of the best-performing students in the recent UCE results, he announced that five goats would be awarded to these top achievers.
The excitement among students and parents was palpable, with many students expressing their gratitude for the recognition, motivating their peers to strive for excellence.
