SMACK chamber choir to animate Kisubi brothers’ centennial celebration

The chamber choir of St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK) has been selected to lead the singing during the Pontifical thanksgiving Mass of the 100th anniversary of the Brothers of Christian Instruction (locally most known as the Brothers of Kisubi).
The celebration will take place at the school’s sports grounds, near Mount St. Teresa Kisubi (the Mother House of the Brothers) on Entebbe Road, Wakiso District, on Saturday (September 5, 2026).

The selection/approval of the SMACK choir as the lead liturgical musical ministers of the centenary function was confirmed by the Provincial Superior, Casio Aizire and his assistant, Bro. John Bosco Ssenkabirwa, during a recent function at the school.
“It is right and just that St, Mary’s College Ksubi hosts our celebration because it was the first school that we took over from our brothers in the faith, the Missionaries of Africa, upon the arrival in Uganda of our pioneer confreres, in 1926. It is also just that the choir of this school leads us in the songs of praise and thanksgiving to God as we commemorate 100 years of our presence and ministry, which many people say has been impactful,” said Ssenkabirwa said.
The headteacher of SMACK, Bro. Simeon Simon Mpanga said the school’s stakeholders were deeply humbled by the Brothers’ choice of the school as the lead animator of the function. He then assured them of a perfect execution of the assignment.
“At SMACK, quality is a way of life. So, all of you, our brothers and sisters who will grace our celebration should be assured of a lively and inclusive performance characterised by top-notch liturgical musicianship,” said Mpanga.
He added: “Our boys are talented in music and they have won several trophies. Of recent, we also acquired a brass-band. So, when it comes to liturgical music, we have the necessary expertise and confidence.”
About the Brothers of Christian instruction

The pioneer confreres, Bro. Charles Jules Poitras, Bro. Joachim Leon, Bro Eugene Paquette, and Bro. Stanislaus Taileffer, arrived in Uganda from Canada in August 1926 and took over administration of St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK). From there, they expanded their educational mission across Uganda, taking up other schools such as St. Henry’s College Kitovu and St. Edwards SS Bukuumi.
Today, they administer even more schools, including Mugwanya Preparatory School Kabojja, St. Savio Junior School Kisubi, Caltec Academy Makerere, Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga, Bishop Comboni College Lira, and the University of Kisubi, just to name a few.
