Saint Mary's College Kisubi marks 120 years, unveils new campus

The thanksgiving mass was presided over by Fr. Deogratias Kiibi, a popular charismatic preacher, motivational speaker and reigning parish priest of Mpigi Catholic parish, who paid tribute to the Brothers of Christian Instruction for their impactful Christian Educational ministry.

The stakeholders, well-wishers and benefactors of St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK) are in a jovial mood following the grand celebration of the 120th anniversary of the school.

The massively attended function took place at the school on Entebbe Road, in Wakiso district on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

The thanksgiving mass was presided over by Fr. Deogratias Kiibi, a popular charismatic preacher, motivational speaker and reigning parish priest of Mpigi Catholic parish, who paid tribute to the Brothers of Christian Instruction for their impactful Christian Educational ministry.

Kiibi thanked the parents for supporting the students in the school by providing them with school fees and their other needs.

He urged the students to remain focused on their positive aspirations, and also, to pursue the same aspirations with commitment, determination and faith.

After mass, the visiting parents and friends of the school toured the various infrastructure projects, which are currently being implemented to enhance the learning environment of the school. Among the prominent projects visited is the proposed sh6billion Science and Innovation Centre, which is nearing completion.

SMACK holds 45th annual PTA general meeting

The 120th anniversary of SMACK also coincided with the school’s 45th Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) Annual General Meeting (AGM), during which various speakers called on the school’s stakeholders to work together to reinvigorate and strengthen the school’s old culture of discipline.

The Chairman of PTA, who is also the head of the school’s disciplinary committee, Hon. Justice John Mike Musisi, put it to the parents to be fully aware that their role was not limited to paying school fees.

He stressed that parents and benefactors had the obligation of accompanying their children throughout their educational journey. He asked them to work hand in hand with the teachers, to
instill in the children a deep sense of morality and ethical conduct.

The Headteacher, Bro. Simeon Simon Mpanga re-affirmed the school’s commitment to academic excellence and discipline, stressing that vices such as bullying and drug abuse would never be accepted in the school.

The Head prefect of the school, Trevor Nambaale, thanked the administration of the school for investing in science education. He nonetheless called for more funding.

The Hon. Sarah Kagingo, a parent, implored fellow parents to be even more mindful of their God-given obligation of teaching their children the human values of love, solidarity, integrity, responsibility, generosity and respect.

The Provincial Superior of the Brothers of Christian Instruction, Bro. Casio Aizire thanked Bro. Mpanga for his infrastructure development initiatives, which he said would enhance the learning environment at SMACK, further to addressing the challenge of the sharp increment in the number of students. He also thanked him for developing the school’s new campus at Kabojja.

Exciting Science Exhibition

As one of the activities of the celebration, the students of SMACK (from the school’s Science and Robotics Club) put up an exhibition, during which they showcased amazing innovations, many of which were aimed at fostering environmental conservation. Their exciting prototypes included automated seed beds, Eco-friendly paints, mosquito repellents, and a self-driven vehicle, just to mention a few.

The function was even more dignified by the presence of the Commissioner for Secondary Schools at the Ministry of education, Alfred Kyaka. A good number of the Brothers of Christian Instruction also graced the function.

The students who performed exceptionally well in last year’s UNEB exams were also appreciated with cash.
