Students and staff at Aukot Community Secondary School in Soroti District are set to benefit from improved access to safe and clean water after the Rotary Club of Soroti Central pledged to drill a borehole at the school.
The commitment follows a needs assessment visit by members of the Rotary Club, who assessed the school's water situation after receiving a request for support from the school administration.
The Vice President of the Rotary Club of Soroti Central, Vincent Oluka, said the club was moved by the school's appeal and decided to support the project as part of its commitment to improving community welfare through sustainable water and sanitation initiatives.
Oluka said access to safe and clean water is a basic necessity for every learner and expressed confidence that the borehole project will improve hygiene, promote better health, and create a conducive learning environment for students.
The Headteacher of Aukot Community Secondary School, Simon Peter Obila, welcomed the pledge, describing it as timely support that will significantly improve conditions at the school.
Obila said students have for months struggled to access clean water, affecting sanitation and learning.
He expressed optimism that the planned borehole will provide a reliable source of safe water within the school compound.
Meanwhile, the Soroti District Secretary for Health and Education, Christine Apolot, commended the Rotary Club of Soroti Central for complementing government efforts to improve access to essential social services, particularly in education and public health.
