Season Three of the Ultimate University Quiz will continue this Sunday at 7:30 pm with new entrants Ndejje University taking on Bugema in Game eight.

Wanyama Wangah, who is part of the quiz organising team, said that despite being a first-time participant, Ndejje University is known for being very competitive even in sports.

He said the fact that they are taking on Bugema, which has been in every edition of the quiz, makes the eighth game worth watching.

Max Adii, the project lead for the Ultimate University Quiz also agreed with Wanyama.

“Ndejje University is always known for, you know, that competitive spirit. So they'll also fight very hard to ensure that they proceed to the next stage. But also for Bugema University, they have actually been coming along and trying to make themselves very good. They are familiar with the stage,” he said.

Sponsors

The main sponsor of the quiz is the Bank of Uganda. The others are Uganda Communications Commission, National Environment Management Authority, Parliament of Uganda and Harris International.

Broadcast

The nine-week contest will air every weekend on all Vision Group television stations and digital platforms until November 27, when the final will be played.

Adii said the competition will run for about nine weeks, with two games broadcast every Saturday and Sunday at 7:30pm.

“Every weekend we shall be having two games, that is Saturday and Sunday, on all our TV stations at 7.30pm,” he said.

Eighteen universities are taking part in the quiz this year, up from 17 in Season Two and 16 in the inaugural season.

Adii said the quiz is designed to sharpen the skills students need in their academic and professional lives.

“The major achievement for every student is exposure. The quiz gives them the ability to rethink the way they acquire knowledge, and it develops teamwork,” he said.

Prizes

The winner will take home sh25m worth of equipment, while the four participants and their coach will each receive sh1m and a new laptop.

The second-place winner will receive sh15m, with each of the four participants taking a cash prize of sh500,000 and a laptop, while the third-place winner will take sh10m, and each participant will receive a cash prize of sh300,000 along with a tablet.
