Masindi-based Bwijanga Health Centre IV health workers have been urged to stop extorting money from expectant mothers.

Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Emmy Ngabirano made the call on Thursday during the belated Independence Day celebrations at Kikingura Primary School in Bwijanga sub-county where he represented water state minister Aisha Ssekindi.

"Sort out the mess in the health sector, especially Bwijanga Health Centre IV. The issue of extortion must stop. Why are you extorting from expectant mothers and patients? If you don't sort out yourselves within two weeks I'm going to come for you," he said.

Probe into government programmes

He added that he is going to launch investigations into the fraud which is said to be in most of the government poverty alleviation programmes like the Parish Development Model (PDM), Micro projects under the Office of the Prime Minister, the Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP) and the Ugandan Women Entrepreneurs programme (UWEP), among others.

"I have information on how implementers of these programmes are forging details and giving money to people who are not existing. After giving out the money to ghost people they share it. I'm also coming for you," he said.

He also asked the PDM implementers to give sh700m to the beneficiaries by the end of October.

"By the end of October, this money should be off the accounts. I don't know whether the problem is manpower or not. Why should this money remain in the accounts and yet everything is done? There's nothing the Government hasn't done to improve people's livelihood in Masindi but there's no impact. I don't know whether the problem is in civil service, the political leadership, or the people themselves," he said.

President Museveni asked to fulfill his pledge

Kikingura village LC1 chairperson Deo Rubanjwa asked President Yoweri Museveni to fulfill his pledge of establishing a memorial secondary school in the area and also to work on the Ikoba-Kikingura-Ntooma-Kafu-Kyankwanzi road to ease transport between the two districts.

Bwijanga LC3 chairperson James Mudede appealed to the authorities to extend power to the different areas in the sub-county.

He further government to expedite the process of working on the road and the bridge at Kafu which connects the two districts of Kyankwanzi and Masindi.

Responding to the raised issues, Masindi LC5 chairperson Cosmas Byaruhanga said the process to work on the road connecting the two sub-counties is in high gear, adding that as leaders they're also doing a follow-up to ensure that the presidential pledges are fulfilled.

He also said that they have written to the line ministry to extend power to the villages that haven't got power.

"There are surveys which are being done in the villages which have never got power," he said.

He added that the district is currently grappling with a poor and big road network.

"As we're talking some roads are in the process of being taken over by central government. We pray that the process is expedited," he appealed.
