IGP lauds Lions Club Kampala East for boosting learning at police children school

The Inspector General of Police has applauded the Lions Club of Kampala East for championing efforts to improve the learning environment at Police Children’s School, Ntinda, describing investment in education as securing the future of the children.
The IGP made the remarks in a speech delivered on his behalf by CP Anatoli Muleterwa, Commissioner Community Policing, during a community service activity held at the school over the weekend as the Lions Club marked World Literacy Day.
The IGP described education as a key pillar of transformation within the Uganda Police Force and emphasised the importance of providing children with clean, well-equipped and supportive spaces in which they can learn and develop.
As part of the initiative, the Lions Club of Kampala East donated books, computers and furniture, supported improvements to the school library and planted trees within the school compound to promote a greener and more conducive learning environment.
According to Leila Bangirana, the Vice President, the newly supported library provides pupils with books and other reading materials, alongside computers and research resources intended to expand access to information and complement classroom learning.
“This programme also seeks to encourage pupils to develop a lasting interest in reading, broaden their knowledge and build the skills needed to conduct independent research,” she noted.
Commissioner of Police Muleterwa Anatoli, who is also the head of the Community Policing Department in the Uganda Police Force, commended the Lions Club of Kampala East for extending its service to the school.
Muleterwa urged teachers and the wider school community to take good care of the facilities and materials, stressing the importance of protecting the resources and keeping them in good condition so they can benefit learners for years to come.
He also encouraged the school to make effective use of the computers and research materials, particularly at a time when technology and artificial intelligence are rapidly changing how people access, process and use information.
The headteacher of Police Children’s School, Kitimbo Lydia, welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and valuable to the school.
She said the additional learning resources would support both teachers and pupils by creating more opportunities for learners to broaden their knowledge beyond what is taught in the classroom.
The tree-planting component added an environmental dimension to the programme, giving pupils an opportunity to participate in activities that promote care for their surroundings while linking education with environmental responsibility.
Through the library, computers, research materials, reading activities and tree planting, the Lions Club of Kampala East has combined education, technology and environmental awareness in its support to Police Children’s School.
The initiative highlights how community partnerships can help schools create learning environments where children are encouraged not only to read more, but also to research, think critically, discover new ideas and prepare for an increasingly digital future.
