The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) has today (September 14) released the results of the August 2026 professional examinations, marking another milestone for candidates pursuing careers in accountancy and finance.
The results were released in Kampala, bringing an end to weeks of anticipation among candidates who sat for the examinations in August.
The examinations are part of ICPAU’s professional qualification programme, which equips aspiring accountants with the technical knowledge and professional skills required to work in Uganda’s accounting and financial services sector.
This is the second examination diet for the year 2026, the first one being in May 2026, whose results were released in June 2026. The third and last examination diet for this year will be in December 2026, with the release of its results in January 2027.
Speaking during the release of the results, ICPAU officials highlighted the importance of maintaining high professional standards as Uganda’s economy continues to expand and businesses face increasingly complex financial, regulatory and governance requirements.
The accountancy profession remains central to the effective management of public and private resources, with qualified professionals playing a key role in financial reporting, taxation, auditing, risk management and corporate governance.
Performance breakdown
According to CPA Nancy Amuge Owino, the Chairperson PAEB, the August 2026 examinations were conducted from Monday, 24 to Friday, 28 August 2026, in Kampala.
A total of 4,675 candidates sat for various papers, representing an increase of 426 candidates (10.03%) compared to the 4,249 candidates who sat in August 2025.
A total of 6,711 examination scripts were presented of which 2,281 registered passes. 3,890 (57.9%) of the total scripts presented were for female candidates, while 2,821 (42.1%) were for male candidates.
The average pass rate at the August 2026 sitting was 34.0%, compared to 36.4% in the August 2025 diet, representing a decline of 2.4 percentage points. There was significant improvement at Levels 1 and 4, with increases of 8.3 and 18.6 percentage points, respectively.
Meanwhile ICPAU President CPA Timothy Ediomu unveiled the 2026 FiRe Awards, organised in partnership with the Capital Markets Authority, Uganda Securities Exchange and Vision Group, to be held under the theme: Driving Transparent Sustainability Reporting Through Technology and Innovation.”
Ediomu said the awards offer organisations a platform to showcase how they are adapting their reporting practices and improving the quality and relevance of sustainability reporting.
“Eligible organisations can submit their entries through ICPAU website or deliver their three printed copies of their recent annual report to the institute’s office,” he said.
Professional qualification
The August examinations attracted candidates seeking to progress through Uganda’s professional accountancy qualification system.
For many candidates, the results represent an important step towards attaining professional certification and advancing their careers in accounting, finance, audit and related fields.
ICPAU has continued to emphasise the need for aspiring accountants to combine technical competence with professional ethics, particularly at a time when organisations are demanding greater transparency and accountability in the management of financial resources.
The institute's examinations assess candidates across different areas of accountancy and financial management, testing their ability to apply technical knowledge to practical business situations.
