KAMPALA - The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Jonard Asiimwe, has commended Makerere University for its research and innovation efforts, stressing that developments in the sector are key to the country's efforts to achieve the tenfold growth strategy.
Asiimwe made the remarks during his visit to the university today (September 16), where he interfaced with various projects and innovations that the institution has produced.
“As Uganda, we are now at level three of disease management, meaning that we can now manage ourselves instead of always importing these things. I implore all of us to support these innovations to realise development,” he said.

Dr. Sarah Bimbona, the Director Makerere University Entrepreneurship and Outreach Centre, revealed that there was a challenge of students failing to commercialise their products when they leave the university.
“They prefer to get the gown rather than actually going with a product that can employ them,” Bimbona said.
She asserted that the university continues to engage in extensive research and support the community when it comes to entrepreneurship development.
