Forming a Uganda Premier League soccer team is top of the target for International University of East Africa (IUEA) director Hassan Alwi.

However, Alwi will not recruit players from the current Uganda Premier League but will build the team from the community surrounding the university in Kasanga and the Big Talents Soccer Academy that the University supports.

The Big Talent Soccer Academy is owned by artist Eddy Kenzo. 

The university is committed to developing young people through the discipline of sports.

“Teamwork, coordination strategy, discipline is what sports instills in the players and we shall use sports to nurture the talents and the future leaders of this country,” Alwi said.

He added that the university believes it can pass knowledge through sports and a sportsman Alwi knows the importance of supporting disadvantaged communities.

“We have big plans for this academy. Instead of looking for talents, we want to develop them here by setting up a facility,” Alwi who a rally driver and a two-time UMOSPOC Kabalega rally winner explained.

He added that the university will set up a sports Science department and build both the professional, University, and junior teams.

The IUEA annually gives 15 sports scholarships besides Community, Disabled, and academics.
