The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has dismissed reports linking the delayed release of the 2025 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results to the temporary national Internet shutdown effected on January 14, 2026.
In a statement dated January 22, 2026, UNEB says it has seen misleading information suggesting that the results were delayed due to the suspension of internet services, dismissing the claims as false and baseless.
“The public is advised to disregard such misinformation, which is only intended to cause unnecessary panic,” UNEB spokesperson Jennifer Kalule-Musamba says.
On January 14, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) ordered a temporary suspension of public Internet access and selected mobile services across the country, following recommendations from the inter-agency security committee. The services were later restored after UCC communicated to telecom companies.
In a statement dated January 13, 2026, UCC executive director Nyombi Thembo said the directive was issued in the interest of national security.
However, Kalule-Musamba has assured the public that UNEB had already concluded all the necessary quality assurance procedures and that the release of the 2025 PLE results is still within the specified timeline, and there is, therefore, no cause for alarm.
“The Board will announce the official release date in due course. There is therefore no cause for alarm,” she said.
Beware of fraudsters
Meanwhile, UNEB has again warned heads of examination centres against fraudsters impersonating members of the UNEB Security Committee. The impostors reportedly solicit money from schools, falsely claiming they can improve candidates’ grades or remove them from lists of suspected examination malpractice.
“This is not true. The Board does not operate in that manner and does not condone such practices,” Kalule-Musamba said.
She urged the public to report such cases to the police or contact UNEB through its toll-free lines: 0800-111-427 or 0800-211-077. UNEB also assured whistleblowers of protection under its policy.
